Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik chaired a meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council at Al Barakah Palace this morning, emphasising the judiciary’s fundamental role in upholding justice and reinforcing the rule of law.
During the meeting, His Majesty underscored the need to modernise the judicial system in alignment with Oman Vision 2040. He highlighted the importance of expediting litigation processes, reducing case backlogs, and enhancing the digital infrastructure to promote efficiency and transparency.
Praising the Supreme Judicial Council’s Strategy 2024-2040, His Majesty urged the swift implementation of its operational plans. He commended the judiciary’s significant progress in delivering high-quality services through advanced technologies, meeting the expectations of citizens, residents, and investors.
In a significant move to boost Oman’s investment environment, His Majesty directed the establishment of an Investment and Trade Court. This specialised court will handle commercial disputes swiftly and professionally, ensuring the protection of litigants’ rights and fostering investor confidence. His Majesty noted that this initiative aligns with Oman’s vision to attract capital and stimulate economic growth.
Furthermore, His Majesty issued directives to finalise the organisational structure of the Supreme Judicial Council, ensuring the continued provision of high-quality judicial services. He also stressed the importance of enhanced training and qualification programmes for judges, prosecutors, and judicial staff to keep pace with evolving legal and technological advancements.
At the conclusion of the meeting, His Majesty reaffirmed his unwavering support for the independence of the judiciary, highlighting its crucial role in maintaining stability and achieving sustainable development. He also called for greater cooperation between state institutions to realise a unified national vision for justice.
