ROP introduces EVs to patrol fleet

4 Dec 2024 By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Royal Oman Police has incorporated new electric vehicles (EVs) into its traffic and security patrol fleet, highlighting its dedication to sustainable development and clean energy adoption.

The initiative underscores ROP’s commitment to balancing security needs with environmental protection, it said in a statement. ‘By utilising advanced, environmentally friendly technologies and systems, the force is integrating clean energy into its daily operations and promoting the shift toward carbon-free transportation.’

Meanwhile, in August, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) flagged off an electric vehicles convoy to encourage adoption of more sustainable transportation.

The convoy – the first of its kind – featuring 12 EVs covered 1,000km from Muscat to Dhofar via Dakhliyah and Al Wusta.

Currently, there are six car dealerships in Oman actively working to import EVs, contributing to the growing availability of these vehicles in the country.

MTCIT has already launched 18 initiatives to bolster green mobility.
