Muscat – H H Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, officially launched the National School Performance Evaluation System on Monday.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Oman Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education (OAAAQA), aims to enhance the quality of education as part of Oman Vision 2040 strategy.
Dr Jokha bint Abdullah al Shukaili, CEO of OAAAQA, described the launch as a significant milestone. “This system reflects Oman’s commitment to building a high-quality education framework aligned with national priorities. It is a major step towards improving educational outcomes for students and society,” she said.
Since its establishment in 2010, OAAAQA has focused on improving higher education. In 2021, its scope was extended to include both public and private school education. The newly developed evaluation system, based on global and regional best practices, provides a transparent and objective framework for assessing school performance.
H E Dr Abdullah bin Khamis Ambusaidi, Undersecretary for Education in the Ministry of Education, emphasised the collaborative efforts behind the initiative. “An independent external body will evaluate schools, offering clear insights into strengths and areas needing improvement in both government and private institutions. This will help raise educational standards and enrich the learning experience for students and teachers,” he said.
Dr Thuraya bint Saif al Hosni, Director General of the Centre for School Education Quality Assurance, presented details of the system, describing it as student-focused and outcome-driven. The framework evaluates how inputs and processes affect learning outcomes, with a focus on accountability, continuous improvement, and transparency.
The system will involve external reviewers selected from the National Register of External Reviewers. These experts will follow strict guidelines to ensure consistent and reliable evaluations. Dr Thuraya noted that over 500 individuals from Oman and abroad have applied to join the register.
