Muscat – The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is set to host a landmark event titled ‘Exploring the Future of the Arabic Language in Artificial Intelligence’ at its headquarters in Paris on December 18, coinciding with World Arabic Language Day.
The event will bring together leading scientists, artificial intelligence experts, and cultural visionaries to discuss how AI can bridge the digital divide, drive innovation, preserve cultural heritage, and bolster the Arabic language’s online presence.
According to UNESCO, Arabic is a global language of significant cultural importance, spoken by over 450 million people and recognised as an official language in about 25 countries. However, Arabic content represents less than 3% of the internet, limiting accessibility for millions.
The programme will include keynote addresses from notable speakers, followed by panel discussions on topics such as digital empowerment, language preservation, and advancements in Arab-focused artificial intelligence.
World Arabic Language Day provides a platform for dialogue and exchange, celebrating Arabic’s global relevance and encouraging connections between diverse communities. This year’s theme highlights the critical role of technology in ensuring the continued growth and accessibility of the Arabic language in the digital era.
