Muscat – The Department of Criminal Investigation and Research has notified of a new method of fraud in which criminals are using a counterfeit website resembling the official site of Consumer Protection Authority (CPA).
The scam aims to deceive victims into providing their personal and bank details, which are then used to withdraw money from their accounts.
Royal Oman Police (ROP) has issued a warning, urging the public to verify authenticity of websites before submitting any personal or financial information.
ROP stressed the fact that the CPA does not request bank card details when processing transactions related to its services.
Authorities are advising both citizens and residents to remain alert and refrain from sharing sensitive data on suspicious websites, while encouraging the public to report any fraudulent activity to the police.
For additional safety, ROP recommends using official channels for online transactions and carefully checking website URLs to confirm legitimacy.
