Muscat – Ministry of Labour has issued Ministerial Resolution No 501/2024 amending regulations on professions available to non-Omani workers. This new resolution updates the earlier Ministerial Resolution No 235/2022 expanding the list of professions now prohibited for non-Omani nationals.
The updated resolution restricts the jobs of computer engineers, systems analysts and various roles within hotel management and transportation – among many more – to Omanis.
The resolution introduces a phased implementation for certain professions. For systems analysts and information systems network specialists, the restrictions will be effective from January 1, 2025. For jobs of computer programmers and computer engineers, the restrictions will be effective from January 1, 2026. The restrictions for the positions of web designer and operations analysts will come into force from January 1, 2027.
Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology announced that Omanisation of refrigerator vehicle driver positions came into force on September 1.
Through its land transport inspectors, the ministry will oversee compliance and address violations of the new regulation. Businesses and individuals benefiting directly or indirectly from refrigerator services are urged to cooperate by reporting noncompliance.
