Muscat – H H Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said, Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, launched the Military Discipline Programme on Thursday.
It will be hosted in Dhofar from June 30 to July 24.
Organised to inspire Omani youth and achieve national goals, the programme is supervised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MCSY), with support from military and security units and other government entities.
In a press statement, H H Sayyid Theyazin said the programme stems from the keenness of the government, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, to promote the values rooted in Omani society, notably youth who constitute a big part of the sultanate’s population.
The Military Discipline Programme includes a set of engagements designed to instil national pride and identity and social values through a framework of sports activities that develop self-discipline and groom well-rounded personalities among Omani youth, H H Sayyid Theyazin explained.
“In cooperation with the Ministry of Education, military and security departments and other government institutions, MCSY focused on factors of citizenship, identity, heritage and national culture when implementing the Military Discipline Programme, which comprises one of the objectives of Oman Vision 2040,” said H H Sayyid Theyazin, noting that the programme also lays emphasis on initiatives that encourage developmental investment in the youth sector.
H H Sayyid Theyazin added that the programme targets 700 young people from various governorates with the primary objective of “making them role models in promoting national values”.
Royal Army of Oman will over- see the military training programme, while Royal Air Force of Oman will handle trainees’ air transport. Various military, security and civil units will contribute to the programme by providing awareness, education and lectures covering pertinent topics.
