Majlis A’Shura approves organ, tissue transplant law

Muscat – Majlis A’Shura approved draft laws on electronic transactions, and organ and tissue transplantation on Sunday.

After deliberating on the draft laws, the shura – chaired by H E Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali – approved and forwarded the draft laws to the Council of Ministers.

The shura’s ninth regular meeting of the first annual session of the tenth term also discussed a proposed agreement between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Cyprus to prevent double taxation and tax evasion related to income tax.

Additionally, the session addressed a draft agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran on joint administrative assistance in customs matters.

In related news, the shura will host H E Dr Rahma bint Ibrahim al Mahrouqiyah, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, on Monday for a public session.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Muhammad al Nadabi, Secretary-General of Majlis A’Shura, noted that H E Rahma’s statement will focus on her ministry’s policies, five-year strategies and legislative efforts in higher education. Topics of discussion include advancements in vocational and technical education, scholarship initiatives, and regulation of private higher education institutions.

Her statement will also highlight developments in scientific research and innovation, including legislation to foster research aligned with Oman Vision 2040, as well as initiatives at Muscat Innovation Park aimed at sustainable development.
