Muscat – Oman’s athletics team performed remarkably well at the Fifth West Asian Athletics Championship held in Basra Sports City, Iraq, returning home with ten medals.

The team’s impressive haul included three gold, three silver and four bronze medals, underscoring its talent and competitive prowess on the regional stage.

Salem bin Saeed al Amri, Chairman of Oman Athletics Federation, praised the athletes for their outstanding performances, noting that such achievements highlight the ongoing development and potential of Omani athletics. “This achievement of ten medals is a testament to the significant progress our athletes have made and continues our tradition of excellence in international competitions,” Amri said.

A standout moment was debut of the Oman women’s relay team, which clinched gold in a fiercely competitive race marking a historic milestone. The success in Basra is set to bolster the team’s confidence as it prepares for upcoming challenges at the Arab Championship in Egypt and the World Athletics Championship, Amri added.
