24 Apr 2024 Rains turn Buraimi into verdant paradise

Muscat – The recent heavy rains across Oman, particularly in Buraimi governorate, dramatically transformed the arid landscape into lush green expanses, drawing visitors from across the region to newly beautified natural sites.

The deluge filled all dams in the wilayat of Mahda to capacity, with collected water measuring a staggering 3.331mn m3, creating sprawling water bodies spread over vast areas.

The Al Hawiyah area, nestled between the wilayats of Buraimi and Mahda, is now a prime example of nature’s swift and splendid transformation. Here, large tracts of previously parched land have turned into verdant fields, burgeoning with a variety of vegetation that beautify the region. The greenery has attracted numerous species of wildlife, returning to graze in their natural habitats.

The beauty of these rain-fed landscapes has not only enhanced the visual appeal of the region but also boosted tourism significantly. Oman’s varied natural treasures, particularly in Buraimi governorate, have been augmented by the seasonal rains, enriching the sultanate’s diverse ecology and geology.

The rains have rejuvenated the governorate’s numerous wadis, turning these into vibrant ecosystems teeming with life. Streams and wadis such as Wadi Sharm, Al Qahfi, Al Khadra, Abu Qalaa, Wadi Wasit, Al Fayad, Ajran and Katnah are now alive with flowing water, attracting enthusiasts eager to explore nature and tranquil settings.
