Muscat – The Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) inaugurated a building dedicated to vocational training for people with disabilities on Monday. The ceremony was presided over by H E Dr Mahad bin Said bin Ali Ba’owain, Minister of Labour, in the presence of H E Dr Laila Ahmed al Najjar, Minister of Social Development.

The facility, valued at RO150,000, is strategically designed to boost the capabilities and integration of disabled individuals into the workforce.

Spread over an area of 652sqm, the building is equipped to conduct specialised workshops in wood crafting,  metalworks, handicrafts and weaving, and also has a vocational assessment hall. It is designed to accommodate 20 to 25 trainees at a time, focusing on providing quality rehabilitation services that enable skill development and promote greater economic participation of disabled persons.

In line with Oman’s commitment to social inclusion, the new centre aims not only to enhance skills of individuals with disabilities but also to facilitate their seamless integration into the job market, thereby fostering independence and self-sufficiency.

MoSD underscored the importance of this initiative as part of a broader effort to support disabled members of the community.

The ministry provides prosthetic limbs and supportive services to assist persons with disabilities. In 2021, a total of 2,484 individuals, including 1,213 males and 1,271 females, benefited from these services.
