16 Apr 2024 CAA calls for caution as heavy rains to continue in Oman

Muscat – With heavy rains expected to continue till Wednesday in several governorates, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has urged all to exercise maximum caution.

In a statement, CAA said, ‘Heavy rains are expected on Wednesday – estimated to be in the range of 30mm to 100mm – while isolated thundershowers will continue over parts of Musandam, Buraimi, Dhahirah, North Batinah, Dakhliyah, Muscat, South Batinah, South Sharqiyah, North Sharqiyah, and northern parts of Al Wusta.’

There are chances of isolated rain in Dhofar.

‘Wadis will flow in some areas and thundershowers will occasionally be associated with fresh downdraft winds and reduced horizontal visibility during rains,’ CAA added.

Strong downdraft active winds of between 15 knots to 45 knots (28kmph – 83kmph) are expected; waves along Musandam and the Oman Sea coast will be 2m to 3m high.

The authority advised all to follow weather bulletins and reports, while taking maximum precaution, staying alert, avoid crossing wadis, and staying away from low-lying areas and the sea.

‘It is crucial for residents and travellers where rains are expected to heed these warnings and take necessary precautions to ensure  safety.’
