Muscat – Authorities have announced plans to establish a drug rehabilitation centre in Muttrah to support individuals recovering from addiction, marking a significant step towards their reintegration into society.

The decision emerged from a meeting on Wednesday that brought together members of the National Committee for Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, the Anti-Narcotics and Psycho-tropic Substances Competition Project Team, and Abdul Hamid bin Abdul Rahman al Kharousi, Deputy Wali of Muttrah.

The meeting focused on the progress of the drug awareness competition project, reviewing the team’s achievements, stages implemented and organisational aspects of the initiative. A key topic of discussion was allocation of a site for the rehab centre.

Officials evaluated the activities conducted in 2023, highlighting their role in the wider efforts to combat drug and substance abuse in Muttrah.

The drug awareness competition, in particular, was noted for reflecting Muscat governorate and the concerned authorities’ dedication to bolstering national efforts against narcotics and psychotropic substance abuse.

Additionally, the initiative emphasises the efforts to reintegrate individuals recovering from addiction into society.
