Sayyid Badr to call for fast-tracking creation of Palestinian state

14 Feb 2024 Sayyid Badr to call for fast-tracking Palestinian state creation

Muscat – H E Sayyid Badr al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, is set to call for the creation of a Palestinian State at the earliest to save the Palestinian people from destitution, annihilation and death.

In a major foreign policy speech to be delivered in Oxford in the United Kingdom on Thursday evening, H E Sayyid Badr is expected to demand leaders from countries which represent the global majority convene an emergency international conference soon to agree on arrangements for implementation of a two-state solution.

Representatives of Hamas must be included in the conference to fast-track the establishment of a Palestinian State. Peacemakers must engage with the group as it cannot be eradicated.

He will argue that only those rights that come with sovereignty can give the Palestinian people hope to survive. Without such a state, they will be condemned to the “perpetual threat of destitution, annihilation and death”.

He will also voice his concern over the ongoing   crisis deepening divisions between the Global South and the Global North and call for the abolition of veto powers in the United Nations Security Council, arguing that is a relic of the Cold War.

His 30-minute lecture – titled Talking to Anyone for the good of Everyone – will be delivered at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. Following the lecture, H E Sayyid Badr will be the guest of honour at a dinner marking the official inauguration of the centre’s Oman Hall.

The gathering will be attended by diplomats, academics and distinguished foreign policy experts.
