Muscat – Oman Automobile Association (OAA) is set to host the sixth edition of Oman International Drift Championship from February 8 to February 23 in which 180 drivers from 19 countries will compete.

Offering prize money of €109,500, the competition will include three rounds at OAA’s Muscat Drift Arena. The first round is scheduled for February 8-9, followed by the second on February 15-16, and the final on February 22-23.

According to popular drifter and OAA member Ali al Balushi, the championship has a global appeal. This year, participants are expected from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, Lithuania, Latvia, Ukraine, Britain, Ireland, Russia and the USA.

Balushi highlighted the championship’s growing reputation as a premier drifting contest, attracting not only local fans but also enthusiasts from neighbouring countries and beyond.

“The event promises intense competitions among the world’s elite drift racers, reminiscent of last year’s showdown when British contender Steve Bugsy halted Irish champion James Dean’s three-year winning streak,” Balushi said.

The championship will crown winners at the end of each round, with the overall champion being the driver who accumulates the most points in the event. A panel of seasoned referees will adjudicate the competition, informed Balushi.

For fans unable to witness the action live at Muscat Drift Arena, OAA plans to broadcast the event in Arabic, English and Russian on its YouTube and Facebook channels, ensuring a wide viewership. “This digital strategy aims to take the excitement of drifting to enthusiasts worldwide.”

Omani racers have historically performed well in the championship, achieving podium finishes and enhancing their international stature, Balushi informed. “The championship is significant for Oman, as it is not just a sporting event but an opportunity to showcase the country’s tourism potential to millions globally. OAA hopes for continued support to elevate Oman’s presence on the global motorsports stage, reflecting the nation’s vibrant culture and hospitality.”
