Sohar – A delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO) has arrived in Sohar for a two-day long evaluation of its healthy city project in this port city.

WHO’s ‘Healthy Cities’ is a global movement started in 1978 to put health high on the social, economic and political agendas of city governments. The WHO European Healthy Cities Network has brought together close to 100 flagship cities and 30 national networks under the programme.

During the visit, the WHO team held a meeting with Mohammed Sulaiman al Kindi, Governor of North Batinah, in which the Sohar city falls.

The two sides discussed several topics of relevance for the WHO team.

The meeting highlighted prominent achievements of Sohar’s ‘Healthy City’ project, showcasing some significant community-based initiatives conducted in the city.

Earlier in March this year, Nizwa was declared a Healthy City as per the WHO’s assessment.

Healthy Cities are working to accelerate the achievement of ‘health for all’ mission by promoting equitable access to high-quality healthcare services and creating an environment conducive to adapting a healthy lifestyle that ensures a healthier and more prosperous life for all age groups.
