Wheat Production Programme registration extended to Oct 15

25 Sep 2023 By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) has announced an extension for registration in the Wheat Production Programme.

Intended for the sale of the 2023-2024 season wheat produce to Oman Flour Mills Company, the new deadline is October 15, 2023. The fixed selling price is RO400 per tonne.

Interested sellers, including non-Omanis, are advised to submit their requests by filling out a form available in the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in all wilayats.

According to the ministry, eligibility to sell requires the wheat to be a registered Omani variety, produced this year and not mixed with any other seeds or impurities. Farmers themselves are required to deliver the wheat to the company’s mill in Muttrah.

Applications can also be submitted online – omanibur.com – before the new deadline.

Additionally, to support wheat farmers, MAFWR offers seeds of high-quality and high-yield wheat varieties including Wadi Quriyat 226, 227, 308, and 110.

Regular campaigns are being conducted to protect crops from pests, diseases and birds, besides intensified awareness campaigns to emphasise the importance of timely agricultural activities.

On May 31, the Council of Ministers approved a RO5mn fund to assist wheat production in the country until 2027. Further efforts to enhance food security include the allocation of land via usufruct contracts in various governorates, specifically for wheat cultivation.

MAFWR stated it is continuing its work to further expand the cultivation area of wheat with the expectation of a better harvest next season.
