Muscat – A dance group from Oman triumphed at the Global Dance Open championship in Avila, Spain, making the sultanate proud.

The troupe from the popular dance academy DDA represented the sultanate in the four-day competition from July 19 to 22. It claimed two gold medals – Senior (Zero Degree) and Junior (Sizzlers) – and a bronze in the Solo senior (Shivika Bhatt) categories.

Expressing pride in the group’s performance, DDA official Deepthi S said, “Zero Degree received cash prizes and secured the second top scorer position among more than 1,000 competitors from 35 countries, including the USA, Canada, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Gibraltar, Canary Islands, New Zealand, UAE, Qatar, Japan and Germany.”

The competition saw participation of contestants from around the world in all three categories. “We had anticipated being category winners, but being crowned second overall surpassed our expectations. We are proud to put Oman on the global dance map. Our preparations over four months paid off,” Deepthi added.

Earlier in May, DDA participated in the qualifying round of the competition in Qatar and emerged victorious with an impressive score of 96.6.
