Muscat – The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Royal Cavalry of the Royal Court Affairs and the Royal Guard of Oman, successfully concluded their performance at the 2023 Basel Tattoo in Switzerland.
The closing ceremony on Saturday evening showcased exquisite musical programmess from elite military bands across the globe, encapsulating the spirit of the renowned Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
Musicians from Oman’s Royal Cavalry and Royal Guard delivered an enchanting performance on horseback, playing various pieces reflective of the rich Omani musical heritage. This exhibition served as a vibrant testament to Oman’s cultural and civilisational legacy.

Within the Oman-dedicated corner, musicians from the Royal Cavalry and Royal Guard performed several musical compositions. Visitors were treated to Omani sweets, incense, and frankincense, contributing to an immersive cultural experience.
As part of the children’s open day, another group of musicians introduced children to various types of music and their respective instruments. The young attendees also had an opportunity to learn horse riding.
H E Mahmoud bin Hamad al Hasani, Oman’s Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation, remarked on the significance of such global showcases. He said, “Participating in international exhibitions like the Basel Tattoo serves as a platform to promote Oman’s cultural heritage.” He also added that the contributions from the Royal Cavalry and Royal Guard were universally applauded.
H E Idris bin Abdulrahman al Khanjari, Oman’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, expressed his delight at Oman’s participation. He said, “Music is not just an art form; it is an effective diplomatic tool that brings cultures closer.”
Erik Juilliard, CEO and Producer of Basel Tattoo, showed his gratitude for the Omani performance. He said, “The presentation from Oman, symbolising their rich culture, was a remarkable addition to this year’s show.”
