Muscat – Sayyid Badr Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, welcomed Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, at a significant diplomatic meeting held on Wednesday.

The purpose of Abdollahian’s visit was to expedite ongoing consultations and collaboration in various bilateral spheres, with a focus on implementing the objectives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s historic visit to Iran in May.

In a statement to ONA, Sayyid Badr affirmed the remarkable consensus in the visions of the two countries on several issues and latest regional and international developments. He said these issues were discussed at the meeting which would contribute in realising security, stability and peace in the region.

Following the meeting, further agreements, memoranda of understanding and executive programmes are expected to be reached, benefiting the interests of both neighbouring countries and their friendly peoples.

Abdollahian appreciated His Majesty the Sultan’s constructive initiatives in promoting peace and stability at regional and international levels.

He described the bilateral consultations on Wednesday as “constructive and positive”, highlighting the growing active cooperation between Oman and Iran across various sectors. The ministers agreed to hold meetings of the Joint Committee soon, renewing their commitment to further strengthen bilateral ties.

He added that relations between the neighbours have transcended the stage of dialogue and discussion to a phase of active bilateral cooperation in all spheres.

The remarkable progress in Oman-Iran relations was emphasised, particularly in areas of economic and trade cooperation, transportation, energy, science and tourism.

Abdollahian also highlighted the United Nations Secretary General’s initiative to convene a meeting of foreign ministers from eight Gulf countries in New York, an initiative strongly supported by Oman and Qatar.

The two ministers actively explored opportunities to enhance joint cooperation in cultural, trade, economic and investment fields. They reaffirmed full support for endeavours that promote global peace and stability.

This meeting marks a significant step forward in deepening friendship and cooperation between Oman and Iran.
