Muscat – H E Qais al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, has issued a Ministerial Decision (No 62/2023) on national product identity licensing regulations.
The decision seeks to establish a unified national framework for Omani products. Besides unifying the products’ marketing identity, the decision is aimed at augmenting competitiveness, enhancing in-country value (ICV) of national products, and raising local and international consumers’ awareness on Omani products.
Article 2 of the decision states that all establishments and companies must harmonise their status accordingly within 180 days of the decision coming into effect. It requires all companies to obtain a licence from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion to use the national product logo.
According to the decision, the ministry must approve a licence application within 15 days of documents being filed. The licence is valid for three years and renewable.
The decision stated that violators will be subject to a fine of not less than RO500 and/or suspension or cancellation of their commercial licence for a year.
The decision was issued on February 9 and came into effect a day following its publication in the Official Gazette.
