Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has sent cables of condolences to President Dr Bashar al Assad of the Syrian Arab Republic and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of the Republic of Turkey following the earthquake on Monday.

His Majesty the Sultan expressed his heartfelt condolences to President Assad and President Erdogan, as well as the people of their countries and families of victims. His Majesty prayed to the Almighty Allah to rest the victims’ souls in peace in paradise and grant their families patience, while wishing the injured speedy recovery.

In statements, the embassies of the sultanate in Turkey and Syria said they were following up on the earthquake that struck the Pazarcik district of southern Kahramanmaras province.

The embassy in Turkey informed that it is in contact with relevant authorities to follow up on the situation of Omani citizens. The embassy in Syria informed that no Omanis were affected.
