Muscat – In order to support the nationwide initiative to plant 10mn wild trees, the Environment Authority (EA) planted 50,000 wild seeds in the North Batinah governorate.
A statement issued by EA said, ‘The Environment Directorate in NorthBatinah organised a campaign to plant 20,000 sidr seeds and 30,000 ghaf seeds in Al Jamila area of the wilayat of Khabourah.’
The project aims to increase vegetation coverage, protect and preserve the ecosystem, and rehabilitate degraded land while spreading environmental awareness among community members.
In January 2020, EA, in cooperation with Petroleum Development Oman, launched the initiative to plant 10mn wild trees in the next ten years. The wild tree species include ghaf, sumr, sidr, shue, tiq, talh, mitan, sarh and alalan.
