Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik granted an audience to the chairman and members of Majlis A’Shura at Al Barakah Palace on Wednesday.

Beginning the meeting, His Majesty gave thanks and praise to the Almighty Allah for the great blessings He showered on this dear country. He prayed to the Almighty to perpetuate the divine gifts on Oman and its people and guide them to find the best way to fulfil their aspirations. He asked the Almighty to provide Omani people abundant means of realising a brighter future.

His Majesty spoke on a number of topics of relevance to realise the goals of the country.

His Majesty the Sultan commended the role of Majlis A’Shura and its members in achieving the goals entrusted to them, notably in supporting the efforts made in implementing development plans and programmes and realising growth, and partnering in the comprehensive development process.

In view of ongoing preparations to hold municipal council elections on December 25, His Majesty spoke on the powers entrusted to members of municipal councils. His Majesty instructed members of Majlis A’Shura to focus on the powers granted to them – by virtue of the Oman Council Law – and facilitate the integration of roles between the Shura and municipal councils to avoid any duplication or clash between the functions of the two.

At the conclusion of the meeting, His Majesty emphasised the need to prioritise the interest of the nation above all other considerations, by strengthening partnership and integration between the Council of Ministers and the Council of Oman, to serve the overall public interest.
