Cybersecurity week begins today; 45 countries expected

Muscat – Four hundred specialists from 45 countries will participate in the 10th Regional Cybersecurity Week that kicks off on Sunday and runs till Wednesday in Muscat.

Organised by International Telecommunication Union – Arab Regional Cybersecurity Centre (ITU-ARCC), this year’s proceedings will be hosted by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology through Oman National CERT (OCERT).

The week is themed ‘Cybersecurity Innovation and Industry Development’. The agenda includes the 10th Regional Cyber Drill (November 6-7), the 10th Regional Cybersecurity Summit, ITU-ARCC Regional Symposium for Africa and Arab Regions, and the 14th Annual Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation-CERT on November 8-9.

The event will feature a stellar line-up of speakers in panel discussions, engaging discussions, making unique presentations providing access to a wealth of industry related knowledge, sharing insights, best practices and experiences, and spotlighting trends, outlooks and case studies.

‘Cybersecurity tops the list of priorities in Oman, as businesses and the government sector align with the directions of Oman Vision 2040,’ OCERT said.

Muscat was named Arab Digital Capital for 2022. The sultanate’s candidacy was filed under the slogan ‘A digital future that creates opportunities’, which focused on three important areas – cybersecurity, digital innovation and digital capabilities.

‘The 10th Regional Cybersecurity Week aims to develop digital talent and skills in the Arab world, enhance cooperation in cybersecurity and encourage investment in the digital economy,’ OCERT stated.
