Adventure activities launched in Wadi Dayqah

Muscat – Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran Group) has announced the launch of water sports and adventure activities at Wadi Dayqah.

A range of facilities, including kayak and paddleboard rentals, donut boat hire, pedal boats and a mountain bike trail are being offered at the popular tourist site.

Located in Quriyat, 75km from Muscat, Wadi Dayqah is home to one of the largest dams in the Arabian Peninsula.

Dayqah Dam was built in 2012 to collect rainwater from the surrounding mountains and control the water flowing through the villages below. The result is a stunning fresh water lake and a stream flowing 7km from the main body of the dam.

A statement issued by Omran said, ‘The water sports activities recently launched at Wadi Dayqah are part of a broader development plan we are implementing at the wadi in collaboration with the Ministry of Heritage in Tourism and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Recourses. This first phase of the project offers a wide range of exciting experiences for visitors to enjoy.’

With this development plan, Omran is leveraging Wadi Dayqah’s popularity and unlocking its potential as a water sports and adventure tourism destination. ‘By doing this, we’ll be able to diversify our range of tourism products,’ it stated.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Salim Abdullah al Ghadani, an official at the Wadi Dayqah Dam Adventure Centre, said, “This facility aims to turn the site into Oman’s biggest and best adventure hub. The goal is to utilise the vast blue lake and surrounding mountains to create unique outdoor experiences for local and global visitors.”

He informed that the activities at the site were launched on October 13. The centre is open from 12pm to 6pm every day of the week, except for Mondays.

“All safety equipment, including life jackets for those enjoying water sports, are provided. Detailed instructions are given to visitors before they engage in any activities,” Ghadani said.
