Muscat among cities with least number of Airbnb stays in the world

6 Aug 2022

Muscat – Muscat is among the ten cities with the least number of Airbnb properties in the world, according to a study titled Global Airbnb Capitals 2022 – The Best Global Destinations for an Airbnb Stay.

Muscat is placed tenth on the ‘10 cities with the least Airbnb stays in the world’ with 288 properties; Bandar Seri Begawan, Bru-nei, is ranked first with 115 rentals.

The second edition of the study – the first was in 2019 – was conducted by Inkifi, a photo printing and wall art portal, to find out which global destinations had the largest offering of Airbnbs, making these great options for the traveller on a budget.

‘Since then (2019), the world has experienced all the effects of the pandemic, closing borders and preventing people from travelling. This has had an enormous impact on the travel industry, which is only just starting to recover,’ stated the report.

The new, up-to-date, data reveals the travel destinations that are ready for tourists with the largest offerings of potential Airbnb stays.

Since 2019, the number of active Airbnb rentals has fallen across the board, with the total number of listings for the top ten destinations falling from 303,535 to 209,682 – down 30.92 per cent.

With almost 10,000 more Airbnbs than any other city, London has by far the most choice for travellers with active rentals at 34,135. It is followed by Paris (24,940), making the City of Love a great destination for travellers who don’t want to shoulder the expense of costly hotel rooms, and New York City (22,586), taking the third place.

Ankara, Turkey, has the cheapest average daily rate for Airbnbs, with travellers paying as little as US$21.05 per night. Bengaluru, India, is second cheapest and Kathmandu, Nepal, third.

Las Vegas, USA, is the most expensive place to stay in an Airbnb, with average daily rates of US$224.95. The other two costliest cities – Miami and San Francisco – are also in the US.

The city with the highest density of Airbnbs is Pattaya, Thailand, where there are 79.25 active rentals on the market for every 1,000 people living there.
