25 Jul 2022 By

Muscat – The Ministry of Labour (MoL) on Monday organised the first introduction session to implement a job rotation initiative between government agencies and reviewed the mechanism of transfer and rotation of employees between units according to set conditions.

‘Job rotation’ is a management strategy in which employees are shifted between departments on assignments at regular intervals to make them versatile within an organisation. It helps in testing employee skills to assign them tasks in line with competencies as well as helps in reducing monotony of job.

Khalsa bint Habib al Farsiyah, director of the initiative department in MoL, said that job rotation is poised to be part of the future vision of the sultanate which seeks to build an innovative administrative apparatus and be a generator of opportunities.

“This will be done through the development of programmes and standards based on sound foundations of proper planning, organisation and development,” she said.

Khalsa pointed out that MoL is preparing a study to find a clear and organised mechanism that contributes to the success of the job rotation initiative and identify the most important challenges facing its implementation.

During the introductory session, a presentation by Mohamed al Walid al Hinai, head of the central team of the initiative, touched on several aspects, including restructuring the state’s administrative apparatus, analysing the current reality of the government sector, besides requirements and justifications for implementing the initiative and its benefits.

He said that the initiative has several benefits for society, including improving the quality of government services by raising efficiency of human capital, achieving administrative reforms, preparing empowered leaders, discovering qualified competencies and raising institutional performance by exchanging government competencies.

The introductory session was held under the auspices of H E Sayyid Salim bin Muslim al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Human Resources Development in MoL.
