Muscat – The Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) and Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) have honoured Ali bin Nasser al Wardi for saving the lives of two children in the wilayat of Bahla, Dakhliyah.

CDAA honoured Wardi on Sunday, while Rear Admiral Saif Nasser al Rahbi, Commander of RNO, felicitated him on Monday. Wardi is an RNO first sergeant.

‘Salim Yahya al Hinai, chairman of CDAA, has expressed his gratitude and appreciation of the valour and heroic role played by Ali al Wardi in saving the lives of children in Bahla,’ the authority said in a statement.

Hinai added that Wardi performed a great humanitarian duty, praising him for the risk he took to save the children.

Wardi rescued two boys stranded in a wadi in Bahla on Saturday. He tied a rope around his waist and jumped into the gushing wadi. The rope was held by his father and brother, who were later joined by more people, as Wardi and the children were pulled out of the water to safety.

Wardi’s feat triggered a flood of social media posts, praising his selfless gesture.

Ibrahim al Sawafi tweeted, “Ali al Wardi is a hero who deserves to be honoured. May God bless him.”

Another twitterati Salim al Balushi said, “Wardi has prov-en that the people of Oman are chivalrous and brave. They step up in difficult times.”
