Recreational activities to be set up at heritage sites

Muscat – The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) is calling for investments in several heritage sites in Dhofar in an effort to develop recreational activities and tourist facilities.

A ministry official said, ‘The authority has announced a tender inviting Omani companies to bid for organising recreational activities, such as kayaking, paddle boating and electric carts, in Al Baleed Archaeological Park and Samahram Archaeological Site.”

Bids are also invited to rent cafes in Al Baleed Archaeological Park, and the Samahram and Wubar archaeological sites.

The last date for submission of bids is July 20.

Al Baleed Archaeological Park, Samahram, the Shasir area and Wadi Dokka are included in the World Heritage List under the name Land of Frankincense sites.
The number of visitors to the Land of Frankincense sites was 2,132 in April, according to MHT statistics.

Al Baleed Archaeological Park and the Frankincense Land Museum received 1, 127 visitors, Samahram Archaeological Site received 567, and Wubar Archaeological Site received 438 visitors.

The Office of His Majesty the Sultan’s Adviser for Cultural Affairs is developing several archaeological sites and providing these with facilities for cultural and archaeological tourism in Dhofar.
