Youth travel to Europe to promote Oman

6 Jun 2022 By

Muscat – A group of Omanis has set out to promote Oman abroad by meeting people at busy tourist sites in Europe and distributing brochures on the sultanate’s diverse tourism offerings.

Ten young Omanis from Salalah Traveller, which was established in 2020, embarked on a tour of two European countries on May 27. “With the support of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, our group is touring France and Norway to promote Oman, especially Dhofar. Team members have distributed brochures at famous tourist attractions, including the Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum and Avenue des Champs-Élysées in France,” said Asim Omar ba Hajjaj, a member of the team.

The team is currently visiting Norway and will complete the trip on June 12. In 2021, the team had undertaken a similar trip to promote Oman in Turkey, Bosnia, Kosovo, Serbia and Albania.

Elaborating on the goals of the team, Hajjaj said, “We hold lectures with the help of local community organisations to raise awareness on tourist sites and facilities in various governorates of the sultanate.”

The team also organises monthly trips in the sultanate. “Participants visit plains, wadis and mountains. We mostly choose an unexplored site. Additionally, we organise hiking, swimming and mountaineering events.”

Hajjaj informed that careful consideration is given to deciding the number of people for each trip and the activities included in it based on the terrain of the area. “Dhofar is one of the best tourist destinations in the sultanate, but it needs more projects to attract more tourists,” he said.

“We need financial support from private companies to continue promoting Omani tourism. We will continue to conduct trips outside the sultanate to promote tourism and attract tourists to the sultanate.”
