Muscat – To facilitate a work environment conducive to street vendors in Amerat, Muscat Municipality has announced a project called Grill Zone in the wilayat which will bring all mobile vendors to one place to conduct their activities in an organised way.

In a statement, Muscat Municipality said, ‘The project aims to regulate the activities of street vendors in the governorate. Setting up Grill Zone will get all mobile vendors to one integrated place, in addition to facilitating control over food quality and protecting residential sites from harmful grilling fumes.’

According to Muscat Municipality, the site will have tables, chairs, garbage containers and lighting, besides place for 20 mobile vending carts.

The civic body indicated that the project will reduce traffic congestion in Amerat where street vendors currently operate and improve the overall aesthetics of the wilayat.

Amerat residents welcomed the project.

“I enjoy mishkak and visit mishkak sellers frequently -almost every week. But the current location where street vendors sell mishkak is very congested as it’s near the road, making it inconvenient for motorists. Hope Grill Zone is conveniently located,” said Fuad al Farsi, an Amerat resident.

Announcement of the project with better facilities has come as a relief to the street vendors. “Currently, we are operating from a site along a narrow road which is not ideal for our business. Once the project is complete, we will be relieved and probably attract more customers,” said Mohammed Ali, a mishkak seller in Amerat.
