Muscat – Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) has announced its support to the ‘Made in Oman’ campaign with a sum of RO5,000 annually.

OCCI held its sixth annual general meeting on Wednesday with Redha bin Juma al Saleh, chairman of the board of directors of the chamber, in attendance.

At the meeting, it was agreed to provide RO5,000 annually for the ‘Made in Oman’ campaign with the objective of supporting and promoting Omani products to compete locally, regionally and internationally.

Also on the agenda was a study on the fees imposed on the private sector and comparing these with those in other Gulf Cooperation Council states and presentation of several proposals to strengthen the economy and empower the private sector for submission to concerned authorities. The meeting also discussed the need of creating an integrated centre for exhibitions and conferences in the Governorate of Dhofar, and a public tender to conduct studies and consultations for the project.

The ‘Made in Oman’ national campaign has contributed to creating marketing outlets for Omani products in all governorates of the sultanate. The campaign is run by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in partnership with the Authority of Small & Medium Enterprises Development, Consumer Protection Authority, Madayn and OCCI, as well as representatives from the business community.

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion launched the campaign as part of its activities to encourage consumers to buy local products. The campaign promotes and raises the profile of a wide range of products grown and made in the sultanate.

At its sixth annual general meeting on Wednesday, OCCI’s board of directors also approved the establishment of a joint Omani-Bahraini company with a capital of RO10mn. The company will include chambers of commerce and businessmen from both countries.
