Muscat – The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) will organise the Empty Quarter Festival in the wilayat of Thumrait from December 23 to early January 2022.
It will be organised in cooperation with the Office of the Minister of State, the Governor of Dhofar, Dhofar Municipality and the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ASMED), an official at the ministry said.
“The festival will include a number of heritage, tourism and entertainment events, as well as bedouin heritage arts at Al Khidf Oasis,” he said.
The festival will include a children’s and family theatre, entertainment shows, sites for climbing, basketball, football, camel and horse riding, and sandbike rental sites.
The bedouin arts will include Taghrud art and folklore, besides traditional games, sand race challenge, paragliding activities, and the Thumrait Open Shooting Championship for light saktoun rifles, the official said.
Sheikh Muslim bin Ahmed al Hadari, wali of Thumrait, said the festival will play a vital role in highlighting the heritage and tourist attractions in the sultanate and contribute to the tourism industry.
