Muscat – In celebration of its tenth anniversary, Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) has announced the launch a new season for 2022 with a return to live performances featuring 20 productions and a total of 35 performances.
The new season includes two operas, two ballets, two Arab stars, two gala concerts and two symphonic concerts featuring, among others, jazz and world music, ROHM said in a statement.
The season opens with a landmark red-carpet, world premiere of ROHM’s production of Verdi’s Rigoletto, produced by the globally renowned director Franco Zeffirelli.
‘This is the great man’s final legacy with Leo Nucci, the Rigoletto with no comparison, starring in the lead role.’
Zeffirelli’s direction is packed with his trademark vibrancy and grand vision in presenting the Orchestra and Choir of Fondazione Arena di Verona, along with the Omani Opera Choir Group, to perform under the baton of Jan Latham-Koenig on January 20, 21 and 22.
The season also includes an unparalleled exhibition on the life and works of the legendary director to be hosted at the Royal Opera House of Musical Arts from January 16 to March 20.
Through artefacts, images and videos designed especially for ROHM, many on display for the first time, the exhibition is an artistic tour de force of Zeffirelli’s vision of grand opera.
All performances will take place adhering to COVID-19 protocols, the statement said.
