Muscat – Al Bashayer Club riders dominated the inaugural Ministry’s Shield Cycling Championship, organised by the Oman Cycling Association (OCA), on Friday.
It was triple delight for young Said al Rahbi of Al Bashayer as he won the elite and U23 top honours to help his club clinch the maiden Shield to take home three gold medals.
A total of 62 riders from 12 clubs took part in the competition that was held in two categories – individual time trial and general classification.
Rahbi topped the road race in a time of 2hrs:47min:05sec and was closely followed by Seeb’s Mohammed al Wahibi, who clocked 2:48.17. Wahibi was also second in both U23 and elite categories while another Al Bashayer rider, Husam al Rawahi, was third in elite class. Salim al Nabhani of Bahla Club was third in U23 division.
Seeb finished overall runner-up in the competition and Oman Club came third to complete the podium. Salalah Club was fourth and followed by Al Shabab. The other clubs that took part were Quriyat, Sur, Al Salam, Nizwa, Bahla, Rustaq and Mussanah clubs.
