H E Dr Mahad bin Said bin Ali Ba’owain, Minister of Labour, issued a decision (No. 115/2021) regarding part-time work, under which the General Education Diploma (GED) students too stand to benefit.
The decision states that employers may employ jobseekers, retirees, the GED or higher education students, or workers in the private sector under the part-time work system.
The decision stated that the temporary-work employee must be an Omani over the age of 15 years, and that a work contract should be concluded between the two parties, showing the work relationship, the agreed salary and the working hours; the contract should be less than a full contract.
The decision said the GED students in order to benefit from this system, must be registered in one of the public or private schools and be at least 15 years old.
The students must obtain consent of the guardian in order to work, and should work only during the mid-year vacation and at the end of the school year leave. The decision was issued on July 6.
