In a move to support women, people with disabilities and individuals with limited income, the Ministry of Social Development (MoSD) has issued Ministerial Decision No 106/ 2021 to set up Ahad Foundation.
The foundation will be established with capital of RO1mn which may be invested in any business venture that reaps profits.
‘The headquarters of the foundation will be in the Governorate of Muscat and branches can be established in other governorates,’ MoSD stated.
‘The foundation will also promote the values of citizenship, identity, heritage, culture and patriotism, and support initiatives and social welfare services for families and individuals. It will help community and humanitarian work to serve the elderly and orphans. Further, it will support NGOs that provide rehabilitation and social care services for families.’
Speaking to Muscat Daily, volunteer teams hailed the decision. Sakina al Hosni, head of the Ethar Volunteer Team, said, “We need such charitable institutions. They will help volunteer teams play their role.”
Souad al Alawi, head of the Yanqul Charitable Team, described setting up of Ahad Foundation as a major shift in supporting social solidarity.
