Under the auspices of H E Eng Salim bin Nasser al Aufi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, and in collaboration with Occidental Oman, Schlumberger Oman has signed an agreement with Crimson Petroleum Services LLC as part of its in-country value (ICV) strategy to develop the capacity and capability of Omani companies and to maximise expenditure on goods and services made in Oman.
Under this agreement, Crimson Petroleum Services will provide services for artificial lifting technologies, as part of the scope of work awarded to Schlumberger by Occidental Oman, according to a press statement issued on Monday.
Crimson Petroleum Services will manage the service scope related to sucker-rod pumping units along with manpower and their associated tools and equipment. Omanisation levels are expected to reach 98 per cent in the first year of the project, and the services will cover the rod pump systems with various sizes.
Ali al Lawati, managing director at Schlumberger Oman, said, “This agreement is another testament of our relentless commitment to collaborate with our partners towards joint ICV initiatives to support local companies in building competencies and capabilities to operate at international standards. The agreement will support and create jobs for Omanis and increase expenditure in the local supply chain.”
Nasser Sultan al Hashmi, general manager of Crimson Petroleum Services, said, “We are delighted to have signed this contract with Schlumberger, which is endorsed by Occidental Oman. This kind of contract integrates people, processes, and technology across the oil and gas industry. Oman’s ICV policy is helping international companies to transfer skills and knowledge to local Omani companies under the Ministry of Energy and Minerals.”
Stephen Kelly, president and general manager of Occidental Oman, added, “Occidental Oman’s ICV strategy aims to increase and improve the sustainable development of Omani goods and services, both locally and internationally. Occidental Oman looks to its ICV Program as a stepping stone to increase the diversification of the economy, as the program reaffirms our wide-ranging commitment to developing a competitive Omani supply chain.”
Schlumberger has a longstanding history in Oman spanning over 60 years. In 2019, Schlumberger Oman inaugurated two facilities one in Marmul and an assembly repair and testing (ART) centre in Nizwa.
