Young at art

9 May 2020

With schools and classes suspended, most students are at a loss with regard to  catching up with the curriculum of the new academic year while some are making the most of internet connectivity in educating themselves. For Pranav Sivakumar, a Grade 8 student of Indian School Ghubra (ISG), however, this has been a super creative time.

Pranav has utilised his free time to spread the awareness of social distancing, importance of staying home, maintaining hygiene, helping the needy etc through his creations of world famous personalities as caricatures. He has drawn more than 25 caricatures of world leaders, sportsmen and celebrities from the film world.

Pranav’s caricature collection includes world leaders like US President Donald Trump, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former US president Barack Obama, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Kerala (India) chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and others.

His film personalities collection is quite extensive with Bollywood actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Hollwood’s Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean) and south Indian actors like Mohanlal, Jagathy Sreekumar, Prithviraj, Nivin Pauly, Thilakan, singers like Yesudas, M G Sreekumar and many others.
Pranav has also sketched his favourite cartoon characters like Tom, Sher Khan and Spiderman along with his collection of sports personalities which include legendary cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Koli, and football icons like Lionel Messi.

Pranav says his inborn talent for drawing was encouraged by his parents as early as his pre-school time. Quite passionate about cars, he had started with pencil sketches of cars and subsequently developed his skills into perspective 3D drawings of many car models, even designing some of them with his own creativity. Under the guidance of his mother, Rema, who is an artist and art teacher, he is now exploring his skills in drawing and painting.

Pranav has showcased his drawing talent through various exhibitions held in Muscat and India. He has also bagged several prizes in various national and international competitions. Last year, he had appeared on a live TV show on one of the leading South Indian channels, demonstrating his skill on 3D car drawings which was well received.

While he keeps himself busy with his art, Pranav is praying for the world to recover from the current pandemic at the earliest and is looking forward to meeting his friends.
