The 11th edition of the Muscat International Film Festival (MIFF) will be held from March 24 to 28, 2020.
The festival will not only showcase some of the best movies from around the world but will also be a platform for film-makers from Oman to display their talents as well as have workshops on the various segments of the art. The logo, which was revealed recently with the theme ‘Make Your Movie In Oman’, aims to attract film-makers from around the world to various destinations of Oman for shooting.
The festival will have competitions in five categories – full length films (documentary and feature films), short Gulf and Arab films, student films, children’s films, and animation films. The last day for receiving entries is January 15, 2020.
The festival will present Silver Jubilee Award in every category of the festival’s competition. For feature films, awards will be given for the best film, best director, best screenplay, best actor, best actress and best filming. As for the documentary films competition, awards will be given for the best film, best director and best photography.
Speaking about the festival, Qasim al Suleimy, chairman of Oman Society for Film and Theatre, said, “The festival will open doors to more talents in Oman and other countries. “Side by side, debates and discussions will be held during the festival. There will also be tours and visits with the aim of promoting the sultanate as a perfect location for shooting and film-making. A number of countries such as the US, France, Italy, Iran, Egypt and Lebanon, besides those from the GCC, will take part in the festival.”
Renowned Arab and international figures like Kamran Pasha, Bruno Henry, Fatima Loukili, Lina Murad and a galaxy of regional and global film-makers, actors and actresses and film technicians will attend the festival. The participating films will be shown at Vox and Lunar cinemas.
