Suwaiq, Arouba and Fanja in three-way race for OPL crown

With just three more rounds remaining for the conclusion of the 2015-2016 Omantel Professional League (OPL), a three-horse race is set to light up the title pursuit. 

After the end of the 23rd round of matches on Sunday, former winner Al Suwaiq (44 points) held a slender one-point lead over defending champion Al Arouba, while eight-time winner Fanja (42 pts) also trails by a point.

Suwaiq and Arouba won their respective matches in the last round, while Fanja was held to a goalless draw by hosts Dhofar at the Al Saada Sports Complex on Sunday.

Suwaiq was in dominating form as it trounced Saham 3-1 at the Sohar Sports Complex on Saturday, while hosts Al Arouba kept up the pressure on the league leader with a 3-0 triumph over Al Shabab at the Sur Sports Complex.

In the other matches played, Muscat blanked Al Mussanah 2-0 and Sohar routed Al Nahda 3-0. Also, Sur held Al Nasr 2-2 at home, while Al Khabourah ran away as 4-0 victor against bottom-placed Salalah.
