Abdullah al Rawahi is no stranger to top-class go-karting championships and in the past along with his elder brother, Sanad, had spearheaded Oman's challenge in international meets on numerous occasion with success.
With Sanad moving out of competitive racing last year, Abdullah is now the only Omani to have qualified for the prestigious 2017 Rotax Max Grand Finals, which takes place at the Kartdrome Internacional do Algarve circuit in Portimao, Portugal on November 11.
This would be Abdullah's sixth appearance at the Grand Finals and his qualification was assured after he won the UAE-Oman Rotax rounds in DD2 class.
Abdullah will be part of the Team UAE as a representative of Oman Karting Team at the Finals and expressed confidence ahead of his first practice round on Tuesday.
“I am in good shape and I am looking forward to a tough competition. I am ready and I hope to finish among the top-ten drivers out of the 72 who will compete in my class,” said Abdullah.
A total of 360 drivers from 60 countries will vie for top honours in different classes at the Finals.
At the last edition, a crash put paid Abdullah's dreams of a top-ten finish and he had to settle for 31st place among the 34 finalists in Sarno, Italy in October, 2016.
