Oman at Games: Barakat exits in semis

It was heartbreak for Oman's main medal hope, Barakat al Harthi, as he failed to make it to the 100m final at the Asian Games in Jakarta on Sunday.

Having ran with a time of 10.21s to finish overall fifth in the preliminary heat on Saturday, the former Asian Games bronze medallist was expected to get past the semis round.

However, competing in the third race of the semis round, Barakat was edged to the fifth place by South Korean Kukyoung Kim in a photo finish as both ended up with a time of 10.33 seconds. Japan's Ryota Yamagata won the semifinal race in a time of 10.10.

Sailors keep pace

Meanwhile in the sailing arena, Oman's hopes remained with the 49er duo of Waleed al Kindi and Musab al Hadi along with Abdulmalik al Hinai in Open Laser 4.7 class.

While Kindi and Hadi remained at overnight's fifth place among the nine teams after the completion of the eighth race on Sunday with 23 net points, Hinai was at fifth among 23 participants following the end of day's action with 30 net points.

In the 49er class, a total of 15 races are scheduled to decide the medallists while in Open Laser 4.7 event, the medallists will be decided after 12 races. Both the events will conclude on Friday.
