Muscat to host 2018 ESS opener

Muscat has once again been given a thumbs-up by the Extreme Sailing Series (ESS) organisers, as for the eighth consecutive year, Oman Sail will host the globe-trotting series from March 14-17.

It is also the third consecutive year that the ESS has opted to kickstart its eight-leg series from Muscat, which has hosted an act every year since 2011, underlining the venue's popularity and confirming Oman Sail’s reputation as world-class hosts.

This year the multinational fleet of high-speed foiling GC32 catamarans will again be welcomed to the Al Mouj Muscat waterfront community and its state-of-the-art venue facilities, with the boats based in Al Mouj Marina and the race village set up at Al Mouj Golf.

"We are thrilled to be returning to Muscat for the opening Act of the 2018 Extreme Sailing Series,” said Andy Tourell, event director of the Extreme Sailing Series.

“The sailors love the venue as it offers great sailing and it’s always an exciting one to start the year after the winter break. We can’t wait to kick off our 12th season in Muscat,” he added.

David Graham, Oman Sail’s CEO, said, “This world-class stadium racing event attracts the global media spotlight and brings hundreds of inbound travellers to our shores to enjoy the high-octane and very accessible racing action.

“The event allows us to showcase the country to the world and fits perfectly with our mission to promote the sultanate as a high end and adventure tourism destination.

“With warm conditions and a steady breeze, Oman is the place to be in March, we are excited to welcome the Extreme Sailing Series family back to our shores.”
