Bahrain emerges champion

Bahrain outplayed Saudi Arabia 100-59 to remain unbeaten and clinch the title at the 16th GCC U17 Basketball Championship that concluded at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Saturday.

The tournament witnessed five teams taking part with UAE finishing runner-up and Saudi Arabia climbing the podium for bronze. Qatar came fourth while hosts Oman had to be content with a wooden spoon following its fourth successive defeat on Saturday to Qatar 45-72.Taha al Kishry, the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) secretary-general, was the chief guest and gave away the trophies in the presence of

Fareed al Zadjali, the Oman Basketball Association (OBA) chief, H H Shaikh Isa bin Ali al Khalifa, the Bahrain Basketball Association chairman, alongside other GCC sports personalities.

Bahrain also qualified for the U18 Asian meet, which will be held in Thailand in August.
