Letters to the editor: Highways and development

(Muscat Daily, April 23, page 4)

This is with reference to the section, ‘Your Say’ which dealt with the issue of having more rest areas on highways. Building rest areas on highways and fuel stations is a positive step. It is not just going to provide easy access to tourists but also for residents and expatriates.

More people will go on long trips if they know that they will not be stranded without basic facilities such as rest rooms and fuel stations. The Batinah Expressway will be very helpful in many ways and I hope the route will be equipped with all the necessary facilities.

Imposing litter fines

Every morning, it is the same scene. Dirty, filthy people both Omanis and expatriates dump trash on the streets. It is time for the municipality to impose heavy fines, a minimum of RO250. The authorities should also get violators to do community service by making them clean beach areas and streets in the presence of public.
