MoT, UNWTO workshop focuses on various statistical aspects

In cooperation with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) held a workshop last week on tourism statistics and methodology used in calculating tourism sector's contribution to Oman’s GDP.

The workshop was held under the auspices of H E Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism. It was attended by a number of representatives from MoT, GCC Statistical Centre, National Centre for Statistics and Information, ROP, Central Bank of Oman and the Ministry of Manpower.

The workshop was conducted by a tourism statistics expert from the World Tourism Organization.

The event covered tourism statistics and methodology of preparing them, focussing on the statistical work of Jordan.

The workshop aimed at introducing the methodology that is used in tourism statistics and calculating the tourism sector's contribution to Oman's GDP.

The statistics are considered one of the most important information that help improve the tourism sector and the related sectors. They also provide indicators to help measure the performance within tourism institutions, in addition to measuring the tourists' satisfaction, which in turn will help in improving the services.
