This was announced by H E Dr Abdulmunim bin Mansour bin Said al Hasani, Minister of Information, and head of the organising committee at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre on Wednesday.
Unveiling the other details, H E Dr Hasani said that the fair will be held under the patronage of H E Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar.
As many as 783 publishing houses from 28 countries will take part in the fair this year. Of these, 603 publishing houses will be taking part directly and 180 indirectly through agencies. H E Dr Hasani also said that 28 countries, including 17 Arab countries such as Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Palestine, Sudan, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Qatar, Morocco, Libya are taking part.
The other countries participating include, the UK, Iran, Turkey, Canada, Japan, Sweden, Brunei, Italy, US, Germany and Pakistan. He added that the fair spread over 11,412sq m will have 1,200 pavilions. A number of Omani intellectuals who have made significant contributions too will be honoured this year, he said.
H E Sheikh Hamad bin Hilal al Ma’amari, Undersecretary for Cultural Affairs, in the Ministry of Heritage and Culture and deputy chairman of the organising committee spoke of some new programmes planned. He added that the fair will also celebrate the achievements of those from the field of literature who passed away recently.
H E Ali bin Khalfan al Jabri, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Information also reviewed efforts of the media committee.
