Competition to develop eco-tourism in nature reserves begins

Muscat -

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA), in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism (MoT), has announced launch of two competitions for the development and management of nature-based tourism activities at Al Saleel Natural Park in South Sharqiyah and Qurm Nature Reserve in Muscat.

MoT has invited Expression of Interest (EoI) from investors for the two nature parks in light of the need to implement the concept of sustainability in all aspects of development, be it environmental, economic, or socio-cultural, the ministry stated. Applicants should present an action plan on how to develop/manage nature-based tourism at the reserve and their previous experience in developing protected areas.

The required documents have to be submitted to MoT by December 17 for Qurm project and by December 14 for Al Saleel. MoT will organise a field visit to Al Saleel Natural Park on November 20 and the Qurm Nature Reserve on November 21.

Under the initiative, the Qurm Nature Reserve will have activities such as bird-watching, natural treatments and yoga classes, and recreational and educational activities aimed for children.
